6 Divorce Movies to Watch this Week
Getting through divorce will take more than a journal, therapy, supportive friends — and great divorce movies.
This week, you might be celebrating the holiday alone. And even if you’re with friends or family, they might not truly understand what you’re going through. If that sounds familiar, trying curling up on the couch with one of these fantastic divorce movies. They’ll bring a smile to your face, a tear to your eye (in a good way) and might just help you find some cheer.
- The First Wives Club – This ‘90s comedy is a great one for any woman whose husband left her for a twentysomething. Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton play three divorcees out for revenge, who learn a few things along the way. Fun musical number included.
- Hope Floats – This divorce movie is a bit more sappy, but definitely speaks to anyone left humiliated by their spouse’s departure. Starring Sandra Bullock.
- She-Devil – If you’re looking for a throwback and some fun revenge, try this one out. Roseanne stars in this divorce movie, which offers you the chance to feel revenge safely from your living room vicariously and a dose of woman power.
- Mrs. Doubtfire – Men out there might nod their head at the situation in this movie, in which a man loses custody of his kids. Robin Williams finds a way to bring humor to the situation.
- Crazy, Stupid, Love – This more recent offering pokes fun at the post-separation dating. And hey, you might even pick up some tips.
- It’s Complicated – This is your standard rom-com, but it offers a fun look at “closure” and how things tend to get messy as people who were once in love try to separate. With Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin.
